Luther College Baker Village

Facility:

Luther College Baker Village – Decorah, Iowa

33,000-square-foot, two-story student housing complex opened in 1999.

Geothermal heat pump system:

  • 72-ton system with one three-ton and two five-ton WaterFurnace units for the commons area. One five-ton unit utilizes a desuperheater.
  • 18 three-ton units for two-story apartments and two 2.5-ton units for single-story apartments, all using desuperheater.

Geothermal loop system:

88 vertical closed loops at 150-foot depth.

At a glance:

  • Interest in geothermal system initiated by student environmental group.
  • Residents like the “clean” no-stack appearance.
